Local Authority - Senior Housing Officer - Birmingham City Council - Temporary Ongoing Contract - Full Time

Your new company

Birmingham City Council is one of the largest local authorities in the UK, dedicated to delivering high-quality housing services that support vibrant and resilient communities. With a renewed focus on estate presence and tenant engagement, the council is expanding its housing team to ensure residents receive proactive and responsive support.

Your new role

As a Housing Officer, you will be the main point of contact for tenants across our estates. You will manage a varied caseload, including successions, mutual exchanges, abandonments, and legal escalations for complex tenancy issues. You will also be responsible for addressing higher-level anti-social behaviour and tenancy breaches. A key part of your role will involve conducting proactive visits to properties, checking conditions, ensuring tenant wellbeing, making referrals where necessary, and responding to tenancy-related queries. You will work closely with Assistant Housing Officers and other teams to maintain a strong and visible presence across our estates, helping to improve resident engagement and community outcomes.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you should have experience in housing management or a similar frontline service. You must be confident in managing complex tenancy cases and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently and proactively in the community is essential. An Enhanced DBS check is required prior to starting. While driving is preferred, it is not essential, and public transport costs will be reimbursed for estate visits.

What you'll get in return

You will receive a competitive hourly rate of £18.09 plus holiday allowance, totalling £20.27 per hour. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in local communities, with a flexible hybrid working model and a supportive team environment. There is also potential for contract extension, and all travel expenses will be covered when using public transport for visits.
