3 month ongoing contract with Birmingham City Council as a full-time Housing Officer

Your new company

On behalf of Birmingham City Council, we are recruiting Housing Officers to join the Housing Management teams across the city. Birmingham City Council is one of the UK’s largest local authorities and is committed to strengthening its presence on estates, improving tenant engagement and delivering high‑quality, tenant‑focused housing services. This role sits at the centre of the Council’s approach to sustaining tenancies, supporting communities and managing neighbourhoods effectively.

Your new role

As a Housing Officer, you will take responsibility for the full range of tenancy management functions, overseeing the tenant journey from tenancy start through to termination. Working 36.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, you will manage and progress a varied caseload including successions, mutual exchanges, abandonments, higher‑level antisocial behaviour cases and tenancy enforcement matters, including supporting legal action where required. A core element of the role is completing proactive home and estate visits, which form a fundamental part of daily activity. These visits involve checking property condition, validating tenancies, supporting customer wellbeing, making appropriate referrals and acting as the main point of contact for tenants. You will work closely with voids, lettings, revenues and partner agencies to ensure seamless service delivery, early intervention on rent and service charge issues, and effective resolution of neighbourhood concerns. The role involves lone working and covering designated localities within the South, East or North Housing Management areas, with location preferences considered where possible.

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you will have solid experience in housing management, tenancy enforcement or a similar customer‑focused housing environment. You will be confident handling complex tenancy cases, including higher‑level ASB and legal processes, while maintaining a strong emphasis on tenant engagement and support. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently, manage a varied caseload and carry out proactive visits safely and professionally. You will have a good understanding of tenancy law, housing management best practice and safeguarding, with a practical, solution‑focused approach to resolving neighbourhood and tenancy issues.

What you'll get in return

In return, you will receive an hourly rate of £18.61 PAYE plus holiday allowance, equivalent to £20.86 per hour in total. You will benefit from stable, full‑time hours and the opportunity to work within a large, high‑impact local authority service. This role offers the chance to make a visible difference across Birmingham’s communities, develop your housing management experience and contribute to the delivery of resident‑focused services across the city.
