Housing Officer needed – covering the Bedford area.

Your new role

We’re looking for a motivated, community‑focused Housing Officer to join our team on a 12‑week contract. You’ll play a key role in supporting tenants, improving our neighbourhoods, and ensuring safe, well managed homes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who cares deeply about people, enjoys independent working, and thrives in a varied, fast‑paced environment.

The role involves acting as a visible and approachable point of contact for tenants and local communities while independently managing a dedicated patch. This includes carrying out estate inspections, home visits, and tenancy checks, and supporting tenants with issues such as repairs, rent queries, safeguarding concerns, antisocial behaviour, and tenancy changes. Working collaboratively with contractors, internal teams, and external agencies, the role also involves handling ASB cases, enforcing tenancy conditions, and representing the organisation in multi-agency meetings. Accurate recordkeeping, strong compliance awareness, and adherence to risk and safeguarding procedures are essential, alongside providing person‑centred support, advocating for vulnerable tenants, and helping customers sustain their tenancies.

What you'll need to succeed

We’re looking for a customer‑focused and community‑minded individual with experience in housing or tenancy management who is passionate about delivering excellent service and building positive relationships. They will be confident communicating with diverse communities, resolving complex issues, and supporting tenants through challenging situations. The role requires someone who can work independently across their patch, manage a varied and demanding workload, and maintain accurate records while staying highly organised and detail‑oriented. They should be safety‑aware, comfortable with compliance responsibilities, and able to handle safeguarding, ASB cases, and enforcement procedures professionally. Strong stakeholder management skills are essential, as they will work closely with contractors, internal teams, and external agencies, representing the organisation in multi‑agency meetings when needed. Flexibility is key, with the expectation to work varied hours across the week, and ideally they will hold—or be willing to work toward—a Level 3 Housing qualification, alongside a full UK driving licence and business‑insured vehicle.

What you'll get in return

You will be paid a competitive hourly rate and have a guaranteed role for a minimum of 12 weeks, with further opportunities for permanent opportunities. As a Hays contractor, you will have a dedicated consultant who will support you throughout the recruitment process as well as whilst you are at work. You will be given access to our training platform, where you can assign yourself to free online training to enhance your own skills.
