History Supply Teacher – Bristol

Your new role

Hays Education is recruiting Qualified History Teachers (QTS) to work on a supply basis across a range of secondary schools in Bristol and the surrounding areas. We are looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable History specialists who can deliver engaging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach KS5 in some placements.
We offer a variety of placement types, including:
  • Day‑to‑day History cover
  • Short‑term block assignments
  • Long‑term History roles, available now, after Easter, and for September

What you'll be doing

As a History Supply Teacher, you will:
  • Teach engaging lessons covering British, European and World history at KS3 & KS4
  • Follow school schemes of work and ensure continuity for students
  • Promote critical thinking, source analysis and strong written skills
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and engagement
  • Adapt confidently to different school environments and department cultures
Long‑term placements may include planning, marking, assessments and involvement in department activities.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong subject knowledge in History
  • Experience teaching in a UK secondary school (ECT placements accepted)
  • Excellent behaviour management and communication skills
  • The right to work in the UK
  • An Enhanced DBS, or willingness to apply for one
  • A flexible, positive approach to supply work
  • ECTs are welcome to apply
