Your New Job
Are you a qualified teacher looking for a change of pace, fewer responsibilities, or a more supportive environment? Or an experienced HLTA ready to take on a meaningful role in mental health education? Hays Education is working in partnership with a unique specialist setting in Greater Manchester to recruit a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant. In this role, you will support the delivery of lessons for students aged 11–19 who are receiving inpatient care in CAMHS units. You’ll cover lessons, contribute to planning and assessment, and work closely with clinical teams—but without the full responsibilities of a classroom teacher. This is an ideal opportunity for teachers seeking a more balanced role or HLTA professionals ready to deepen their impact.
Your New Company
This specialist hospital school provides education to young people admitted to CAMHS units at Prestwich and Fairfield Hospitals. Students are temporarily on roll while receiving treatment and benefit from a highly personalised curriculum tailored to their emotional and mental health needs. The school is known for its trauma-informed practice, therapeutic ethos, and strong collaboration with NHS teams. The school promotes:
- Respect, creativity, and hope
- A nurturing and adaptive learning environment
- Strong partnerships with families and healthcare professionals
- A curriculum that supports both academic progress and emotional wellbeing
What You'll Need to Succeed
- HLTA status or QTS (teachers welcome to apply)
- Experience supporting students with SEMH, SEND, or trauma
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A flexible and compassionate approach to learning
- A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
- Experience in CAMHS, PRUs, or hospital education settings is desirable but not essential. Full induction and ongoing training will be provided.
What You'll Get in Return
- Competitive day rate: £120 – £150
- Reduced teacher responsibilities with continued classroom engagement
- Opportunity to work in a truly rewarding and specialist setting
- Access to mental health and trauma-informed CPD
- Supportive team and leadership
- A chance to make a real difference in young people’s lives
