Hays are recruiting for a Health Care Assistant to join a community drug and alcohol service in Norwich.
This is an excellent opportunity to become an integral part of a multidisciplinary team delivering clinical interventions, harm reduction, and health promotion to people who use our services.
Role Details
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
Contract: 3 months initially, with potential extension
Pay: £17.50 PAYE / £21 Umbrella
Location: Norwich, Norfolk.**Please note we do not offer sponsorships**
In this role you will:
Undertake initial physical and mental health screenings, including vital signs, ECGs, height/weight, and general health assessments.
Carry out toxicology testing (urine/saliva) and support opioid titration under clinical supervision.
Provide harm reduction interventions, including needle exchange, safer injecting advice, and overdose prevention.
Deliver BBV education, screening, and vaccination support, ensuring cold‑chain compliance.
Support community alcohol and opioid detoxification, working closely with nurses and prescribers.
Perform phlebotomy.
Contribute to Naloxone distribution and training for service users and staff.
Assist with referrals to inpatient detoxification units and liaise with hospitals as needed.
Use psychosocial interventions in 1:1 and group settings to promote engagement and recovery.
Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure safe, effective, and timely care.
Essential Skills & Experience
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work flexibly within a team.
Clear understanding of delivering quality, person‑centred services.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work under pressure, manage risk, and respond flexibly to service needs.
Experience in substance misuse, social care, or related settings.
Knowledge of harm reduction, health promotion, and issues affecting people who use substances.
Knowledge of local services and community resources is desirable.
Care Certificate or equivalent qualification is also desirable.
