The corporate Health and Safety team have a wealth of knowledge and experience, which they use to proactively provide H&S specialist guidance and support to council staff and schools within the council’s H&S service level agreement.
Your new role
The Senior Health and Safety Adviser (Property and Trades – Housing) role is responsible for supporting the effective delivery of the Council’s Health and Safety Strategy and leading a risk-managed approach to meeting the Council’s statutory responsibilities. You will be responsible for the supervision, performance management, and personal development of the H&S – Property and Trades side of the corporate H&S team.
You will support the Corporate H&S Manager by leading the development, implementation, promotion, review and monitoring the Council’s Health and Safety Management Systems and associated policies and procedures. You will support their strategic planning to foster a positive H&S culture.
You will be responsible for raising the health and safety performance by driving continuous improvement and efficiency. Developing, implementing, and monitoring H&S management procedures across a range of safety-critical and statutory areas both departmentally and corporately.
What you’ll need to succeed
We are seeking a proactive individual with a strong drive to excel as a senior adviser with the capabilities to enhance and nurture the health and safety advisers within the housing side (responsible for housing, trades, construction, capital works and projects) of the Corporate Health and Safety team.
The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of the NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent) and GradIOSH (or equivalent professional membership). The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in line management with examples of how they have overcome challenges, specifically in the public sector or other large multi-site organisations.
They will demonstrate impeccable written and verbal communication skills, with both internal and external parties. They will also evidence strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
