Your new role
As the Head of Project Management / Project Management Director, you will provide strategic, operational, and commercial leadership for the entire Project Management function. You will be accountable for shaping the department’s long‑term vision, ensuring excellence in delivery, and driving consistent, high‑quality outcomes across a portfolio of major capital projects ranging from £50m to £500m+.
You will oversee programmes across commercial development, life sciences, cultural institutions, renewable energy infrastructure, heritage restoration, hospitality, and large‑scale regeneration, ensuring that each project is delivered with rigour, innovation, and commercial discipline. This includes leading teams responsible for complex technical environments such as laboratory fit‑outs, high‑rise commercial refurbishments, low‑carbon energy assets, and digitally enabled research facilities.
Your role will involve building and maintaining senior‑level client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to boards, executive teams, and public‑sector sponsors. You will be responsible for ensuring that project governance, reporting, risk management, and assurance frameworks are robust, scalable, and aligned with best practice across the industry.
You will lead a multi‑disciplinary team of project managers, associate directors, and technical specialists, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This includes developing talent pipelines, succession planning, and capability frameworks to support the organisation’s long‑term growth.
You will also play a key role in business development and strategic positioning, supporting bids for major programmes, contributing to thought leadership, and representing the consultancy at industry forums. Working closely with partners and senior leadership, you will influence organisational strategy, shape service offerings, and ensure the Project Management function remains competitive, innovative, and commercially strong.
This is a pivotal leadership role for a candidate who can balance strategic vision, operational excellence, and client‑facing leadership, while driving the successful delivery of some of the most complex and high‑profile projects in the built environment.
What you'll need to succeed
To excel in this senior leadership role, you will bring a blend of strategic vision, technical expertise, and the ability to inspire high‑performing teams. Success in this position requires:
- Extensive senior‑level project leadership experience.
Proven ability to lead large, complex capital projects across sectors such as commercial development, life sciences, cultural institutions, infrastructure, heritage, or regeneration, typically ranging from £50m to £500m+. - A track record of delivering high‑value, multi‑stakeholder programmes.
Experience navigating complex governance structures, managing competing priorities, and ensuring robust risk, quality, and assurance processes on major programmes. - Strong strategic and operational leadership capability
Ability to set departmental direction, define delivery standards, and build scalable frameworks that support consistent, high‑quality project outcomes. - Exceptional client‑facing and stakeholder‑management skills.
Confidence operating at executive and board level, acting as a trusted advisor, and building long‑term relationships across both public and private sectors. - Deep understanding of project management methodologies and best practice.
Expertise in modern delivery approaches, governance models, reporting structures, and assurance frameworks, with the ability to embed continuous improvement across teams. - Commercial and financial acumen.
Experience overseeing departmental budgets, resource planning, fee structures, and commercial performance, with the ability to contribute to wider business strategy and growth. - Ability to lead, mentor, and develop high‑performing teams.
Proven experience managing multi‑disciplinary project managers, supporting career development, succession planning, and capability building across all levels. - Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
Ability to anticipate challenges, resolve issues proactively, and maintain momentum on complex programmes with technical, political, or stakeholder sensitivities. - A collaborative, partnership‑oriented mindset.
Comfortable working alongside cost management, infrastructure, design, and specialist advisory teams to deliver integrated solutions. - Professional credibility and recognised qualifications.
Accreditation such as RICS, APM, Prince2, or equivalent experience that demonstrates commitment to professional standards and excellence. - A forward‑thinking, innovative approach.
Interest in emerging technologies, sustainability, digital delivery, and modern methods of construction, with the ability to bring fresh thinking to project leadership.
What you'll get in return
- A senior leadership platform with real influence over strategy, delivery standards, and the future direction of the Project Management function
- Ownership of major capital projects (£50m–£500m+) across commercial, life sciences, culture, infrastructure, heritage, hospitality, and regeneration
- A partner‑led, values‑driven environment that prioritises integrity, collaboration, and long‑term client relationships
- Clear progression opportunities, including a transparent pathway toward senior partnership and wider executive leadership
