Interim Head of Procurement, Interim Director of Procurement

Your new company
A public sector organisation is seeking an Interim Head of Procurement/Director of Procurement to support the function through an important period of change and improvement. Working with an established procurement team, you will focus on strengthening procurement processes, embedding best practice and supporting the delivery of key transformation initiatives. This is a 12–18-month contract based in Birmingham, with 2 days per week in the office.

Your new role
As Interim Head of Procurement, you will provide experienced leadership to the procurement function, ensuring continuity of service while driving targeted improvements across procurement and contract management activities.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and supporting an established procurement team
  • Driving procurement improvement and transformation initiatives
  • Strengthening contract management, governance and supplier performance
  • Ensuring compliance with the Procurement Act 2023 and public sector regulations
  • Supporting stakeholders across the organisation on procurement and commercial matters
  • Delivering procurement activity, sourcing projects and value-for-money outcomes

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Experience operating at Head of Procurement or Senior Procurement Manager level within the public sector
  • A track record of delivering procurement change, improvement or transformation programmes
  • Strong knowledge of the Procurement Act 2023 and public sector procurement frameworks
  • Experience of contract management, governance and supplier relationship management
  • Strong people leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to deliver improvements quickly
