The team is actively developing enhanced metadata strategies and scalable tagging frameworks to improve discoverability, interoperability, and contextual relevance across platforms.
The Role
We are seeking a capable and motivated IT Manager to lead a small but highly skilled technical team and drive delivery within a fast-paced Agile Lite environment. This is a hands-on leadership role with strategic importance, offering the opportunity to shape technical direction as the CTO transitions toward retirement.
You will be responsible for day-to-day team management, sprint planning, and workload prioritisation, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely code across a mixed Windows, Linux and Azure infrastructure. The role also involves providing technical oversight, fostering best practices, and aligning delivery with the organisation’s data-driven goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of developers and an operations engineer.
- Manage sprint cycles and workload distribution.
- Oversee database architecture and performance (PostgreSQL focus; MongoDB desirable).
- Support Python-based development and scripting.
- Manage infrastructure and deployments across Azure, including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- Ensure compliance with CyberEssentials Plus/DORA standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical delivery with business objectives.
- Promote best practices in DevOps and CI/CD (GitHub Enterprise exposure desirable).
Person Specification
Essential:
- MSc in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of team leadership in a technical environment.
- Database development experience (PostgreSQL and Python).
- Solid understanding of Azure and Linux systems.
- Proven ability to manage delivery in Agile Lite or similar frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable:
- Experience with MongoDB and Adobe ColdFusion.
- Exposure to GitHub Enterprise, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
- Hands-on experience with containerisation orchestration platforms (e.g., Docker).
- Strategic mindset with a passion for technology and innovation.
