Governance Officer – Temporary Assignment
Location: Sheffield City Centre (Hybrid – 2 days from home) Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday Start: Immediate start available in February Contract: 6‑month temporary assignment with potential extension Salary: Competitive hourly rate paid weekly

About the Role
Hays is delighted to be supporting a high‑profile organisation in Sheffield City Centre to recruit an experienced Governance Officer for an immediate temporary assignment. This role offers an excellent opportunity to join a small but dynamic team responsible for formal governance, assurance and compliance activities.

Working at the heart of a busy governance function, you will play a key role in supporting senior leaders and committee structures, ensuring effective decision‑making and accurate recording of discussions and outcomes. This position requires an experienced, highly professional individual with exceptional minute‑taking and organisational skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality secretariat support to a range of committees and governance groups
  • Prepare agendas, commission papers, and coordinate meeting documentation
  • Produce outstanding, accurate and detailed minutes to tight deadlines
  • Maintain governance records, actions and reporting requirements
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders, ensuring smooth and compliant governance processes
  • Support wider governance, assurance and compliance activity across the organisation
  • Handle highly confidential and sensitive information with absolute professionalism and discretion
  • Work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast‑paced environment
About You
To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • Previous governance, committee support or executive‑level administration experience
  • Proven outstanding minute‑taking ability at a senior or strategic committee level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
  • High levels of professionalism, judgement and confidentiality
  • The ability to prioritise, multitask and manage competing deadlines
  • Experience working in a structured, fast‑paced environment
  • Confidence to work independently, using initiative to progress workflows and actions
