A General Building Engineer is required at HMP Lincoln to join a busy maintenance team.

Your New Company:
We are recruiting an experienced General Building Engineer to work at HMP Lincoln, expected to be ongoing on a temporary basis for the next few months. This is a long-term temporary contract offering sociable, full-time hours and overtime. There is the possibility for a permanent role for the right candidate.

Your new role:
The General Building Engineer plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.
As a General Building Engineer, you'll be involved in a wide range of tasks crucial to daily operations.
Your responsibilities will typically include:
  • Ensuring availability of critical parts for statutory tasks and managing remedial tasks in the CAFM system.
  • Performing general and semi-skilled maintenance activities, including security systems like CCTV and alarms.
  • Conducting monthly checks and tests of fire extinguisher equipment, fire hydrants, and hoses.
  • Completing quarterly RCD testing and inspecting Misting Units.
  • Maintaining fire doors and performing flushing and tap temperature tests as per water risk assessments.
  • Undertaking monthly and annual emergency lighting checks.
  • Checking and testing smoke vents as required.
  • Carrying out any other duties as required

Details:
Pay Frequency: Weekly
Working Days: Monday to Friday (overtime cover at weekends available)
Working Hours: 39 hours per week
Additional: There may be a requirement for weekend work on a rota basis (1 in 3 or 4), and also part of an on-call rota

What you'll need to succeed
You will need to be honest, hard-working, reliable, trustworthy and have great attention to detail, alongside being an excellent team player.
All applicants who are interested in the position must pass Prison Clearance, which can take up to 8 weeks or more. You will need a passport or photo driving licence to apply for clearance. Once passed, this is valid for 5 years and can be transferred to any other prisons of a similar category.
Experienced in multiple areas of maintenance such as:

  • Emergency Lighting
  • Fire; Door Maintenance, Extinguisher Maintenance and Alarm Core Points
  • RCD
  • Water Temperature Testing
  • IT Skills
