General Building Engineer required HMP Humber
Your new company
As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support operatives. Hays is seeking to recruit a General Building Engineer for HMP Humber near Brough. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and can often lead to permanent opportunities.
Your new role
- Manage remedial tasks within the CAFM system, including raising, updating, and closing actions.
- Ensure the availability of critical parts required for statutory maintenance activities.
- Perform general and semi-skilled maintenance tasks across site facilities.
- Support the operation and upkeep of security systems, including CCTV and alarm systems.
- Conduct monthly inspections and functional tests on fire extinguishers.
- Complete quarterly testing of Residual Current Devices (RCDs).
- Inspect and maintain misting units in accordance with safety requirements.
- Carry out fire door maintenance and ensure compliance with fire safety standards.
- Perform checks on fire hydrants and maintain associated fire hoses.
- Undertake flushing and tap temperature testing as specified in the water risk assessment.
- Conduct scheduled emergency lighting tests on a monthly and annual basis.
- Inspect and test smoke vents to ensure proper functionality.
- Carry out any additional duties as required to support operational needs.
What you'll need to succeed
- Fundamental knowledge of Health and Safety practices
- Completion of site-specific training as directed by the People Manager
- Basic proficiency in IT systems
- Understanding of building maintenance principles
- Awareness of building and system compliance requirements (training provided)
- Previous experience in a custodial environment (preferred but not essential)
You must be able to pass a full prison security clearance and enhanced DBS (if required) (Hays and the MOJ are responsible for organising all security clearances and DBS’) You must hold a valid passport or Full Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence at your current address.
You must have proof of National Insurance AND proof of address dated in the past 3 months. All applicants must be able to provide details of at least 2 satisfactory employment references.
