Your new company
Your new role
As a key member of the Food and Safety Team, you will play a vital role in delivering borough-wide regulatory services to customers, visitors, and businesses. Your responsibilities will include providing expert advice and guidance, conducting inspections and interventions, taking samples, and investigating alleged breaches of the law. You will also lead investigations into notifiable infectious diseases and accidents where appropriate, and enforce legislation within your area of competency to protect public health, safety, and economic well-being. Working closely with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice, you will collaborate with colleagues across Regulatory Services and other council departments to meet service priorities. Additionally, you will engage with external partners to ensure regulation is delivered in a coordinated, consistent, and efficient manner.
What you'll need to succeed
We’re looking for a qualified Environmental Health Officer or someone with equivalent experience in food safety and regulatory enforcement. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of relevant legislation and public health responsibilities, along with excellent communication, investigation, and problem-solving skills. You should be confident working independently while also being an effective team player, able to collaborate across departments and with external partners to deliver high-quality regulatory services. You will also have a full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle and business insurance, as this role requires a driver.
What you'll get in return
In return, you’ll receive a competitive hourly rate of £47 and benefit from a hybrid working arrangement, based in Solihull, offering flexibility to support your work-life balance. You’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative team environment, with opportunities for ongoing professional development and growth. Most importantly, you’ll have the chance to make a meaningful impact on public health and safety through your work.
