Financial Controller Based in Newcastle-under-Lyme £Depending on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen within a newly acquired business, seeking a qualified Financial Controller with manufacturing experience to lead and develop the finance function.


Your new role

The position is responsible for managing all aspects of financial control, reporting, and analysis for the site's Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet. It requires a comprehensive understanding of the business and its influencing factors, with active participation as a key member of the site management team.

  • Team Leadership: Manage and support the AP/AR Clerk, including performance reviews, development planning, and workload oversight.
  • Site Management Participation: Contribute to strategic and operational decision-making as part of the site leadership team.
  • Financial Integrity: Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
  • Balance Sheet Management: Reconcile accounts and resolve outstanding issues.
  • Month-End Close: Prepare and post accruals, prepayments, and other journal entries.
  • Fixed Assets: Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Management Reporting: Produce monthly management accounts and support statutory reporting.
  • Tax Compliance: Submit VAT, PAYE, PSA, and P11D returns to HMRC.
  • Payroll Coordination: Prepare payroll data for submission to external providers.
  • Cash & Working Capital: Monitor working capital, produce overdue reports, and manage cash-flow forecasting.
  • Planning & Forecasting: Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Credit Control: Oversee credit decisions and receivables management.
  • Banking Operations: Manage payments, bank reconciliations, and foreign currency transactions.
  • Employee Benefits: Administer private healthcare and staff benefit schemes.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with managers to develop and implement financial processes.
  • External Liaison: Interface with auditors, accountants, legal advisors, bankers, and insurers.
  • Inventory Control: Ensure accurate stock valuation, physical verification, and costing.
  • Ad Hoc Support: Undertake additional duties as required to support business needs.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Fully qualified ACCA/ CIMA/ ACA

  • Proven manufacturing experience in a financial control capacity

  • Experience working with ERP systems

  • Strong commercial acumen alongside core finance skills

  • Advanced IT and spreadsheet proficiency

  • Clear communicator, both written and verbal

  • Effective people manager with a focus on motivation and development

  • Results-driven with sound business judgment

  • Analytical, accurate, and decisive

  • Self-motivated team player with initiative

  • Willingness to travel to other sites on an ad hoc basis
