Hays is delighted to be working with a long-established, independent school who are looking for an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of the day to day financial operations. Fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Accountant who enjoys variety, working collaboratively and playing a key role within a forward thinking organisation.

Working closely with Finance & Operations, you will lead the finance function, producing accurate and timely financial information to support the school's strategic and operational goals. You will also have the opportunity to manage a small finance team whilst working closely with both support and academic staff.
This role offers a varied and rewarding role; some of the key duties will be:
- Lead month‑end processes and produce management accounts
- Maintain strong financial controls and oversee reconciliations
- Manage cashflow, banking, treasury and debtor control
- Support budgeting, forecasting and cost management
- Oversee payroll processes, staff benefits and financial HR data
- Prepare audit files and support year‑end and statutory accounts
- Drive process improvements across the finance function
- Lead and develop the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable team
What you'll need to succeed
The right individual for this role would be someone who thrives in a varied role, enjoys working with a wide selection of people and values really making a difference within an organisation. Some of the key things we require:
- Fully Qualified ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
- Understanding of accounting within public or third party organisations
- Experience within the education sector – Independent school sector desirable
- Advanced Excel & strong systems capability
- Experienced of producing detailed financial reports
- Excellent attention to detail with a proactive and organised approach
- Confident communicator able to work with non-finance colleagues
- Focused on improvements
