Permanent Finance Manager, opportunity in West Yorkshire

Hays Senior Finance is proud to partner with an established SME to appoint a Finance Manager on a permanent basis. The organisation is ideally situated and commutable from Wakefield, Batley, Dewsbury, Mirfield and surrounding areas.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified finance professional to take ownership of the finance function, particularly management accounting and month-end processes. You'll also influence strategic decision‑making, and work closely with operational teams to drive performance and profitability. As a key member of the finance team, you’ll combine hands‑on financial management with proactive business partnering, turning data into insight and helping the organisation scale with confidence.


Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Leadership & Reporting
  • Lead preparation of monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
  • Provide insightful analysis, commentary, and recommendations to support decision‑making
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting and long‑term financial planning
  • Maintain robust financial controls and audit‑ready documentation
Business Partnering
  • Support operational leaders with meaningful financial insight
  • Conduct cost analysis, pricing reviews, margin analysis and scenario modelling
  • Challenge assumptions and drive accountability for financial outcomes
  • Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, Operations and Supply Chain teams
Process & Systems Improvement
  • Strengthen processes, controls and reporting efficiency
  • Lead or support upgrades to ERP, finance systems or reporting tools
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs and performance‑tracking metrics
Operational Finance
  • Manage cash flow, working capital and banking relationships
  • Oversee payroll, supplier payments and credit control
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and HMRC requirements
  • Co‑ordinate with year‑end accountants and auditors
About You
  • You will be a qualified finance professional, with post-qualification experience leading month-end processes, and experience in a business partnering function.
  • Strong SME experience, in fast-paced commercial environments, such as manufacturing, engineering, distribution & logistics, or product‑based environments.
  • UK finance experience is essential. You will also be fluent in written and verbal English, and a confident communicator who can simplify financial information for non-finance individuals.
  • Hands‑on, proactive and commercially engaged
  • Able to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery
  • The right to work in the UK, without expiry or sponsorship.
