What you'll need to succeed

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Finance Business Partner to join our Local Government finance team. This is a pivotal role for a CCAB-qualified professional with public sector experience, offering the opportunity to influence and shape financial strategy and service delivery across a complex organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead expert in your specialist area, providing strategic financial advice and insight to stakeholders.
  • Prepare, plan, and monitor revenue and capital budgets, supporting future service and organisational planning.
  • Deliver high-quality financial reports, management information, and statistical analysis to inform decision-making.
  • Lead on compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements, interpreting complex financial regulations and developing accessible procedures.
  • Design and deliver specialist training to finance and non-finance colleagues, ensuring consistent understanding and application of financial policies.
  • Support funding bids and grant claims, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial systems and processes, promoting efficiency and best value.
  • Provide technical expertise to support projects, system development, and financial forecasting.
  • Deputise to the Senior Finance Business Partner or Head of Finance as required.
About You
Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Proven experience in finance and budget setting within a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong track record in delivering financial services, advice, and performance reporting.
  • Ability to interpret and apply financial legislation and regulations.
  • Skilled in preparing budgets, forecasts, and final accounts.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in financial systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and influence outcomes in a changing environment.
Desirable:
  • Experience in project management and service improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of other council service areas and recruitment processes.
Qualifications:
  • Full CCAB qualification (e.g. CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Significant public sector experience (desirable).
