Finance Assistant, West Birmingham office based, ASAP start, Temporary assignment

Your new company

You will be working within the Education sector as a Finance Assistant to support with internal changes and developments. This is a temporary position for an initial 2-month period, with the potential for extension, and requires someone who is available to start immediately. The organisation are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience working within education settings.


Your new role

In this role, you will support the day-to-day operations of a busy finance office, working closely with colleagues to ensure processes run smoothly and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include completing day-to-day purchase ledger transactions, ensuring all invoices and purchase orders are accurately entered and compliant with financial regulations. You will assist the wider finance team with the preparation of payment runs and supporting documentation, raise debtor invoices, and manage the receipting and banking of income in line with required procedures. In addition, you will reconcile supplier statements and take appropriate action to resolve any discrepancies, while providing general administrative support across the finance function.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have prior experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or Finance Administrator role, ideally within an education or further/higher education setting. You will have a good understanding of purchase ledger processes and financial procedures, along with strong attention to detail and accuracy in your work. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, able to manage multiple tasks effectively, and demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills. Proficiency in finance systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is essential, as is a proactive and team-focused approach. Most importantly, you must be available to start immediately and commit to working on-site for the duration of the assignment. Please note, this role requires a DBS check.
