Factory Manager


Requirements

- Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing management or a related role – Proven experience in overseeing production operations in a manufacturing environment - Strong leadership, strategic planning and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency in systems, production planning software (we use Sage 200) and MS Office Suite - Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations in a manufacturing setting - Resilient with an ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment - Strong commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety - Experience in training and developing manufacturing personnel - Ability to foster a collaborative and innovative team culture
- Ability to implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity
- Analytical thinker with a methodical approach to problem-solving. Strong proactive leadership presence with the ability to inspire and motivate teams

Key responsibilities

Staff Management

  • Co-ordinate all aspects of the manufacturing process, ensuring operational efficiency and product quality
  • Oversee the entire factory team to facilitate the day-to-day operations and escalate any issues to senior management where necessary.
  • Implement and enforce quality standards and, in conjunction with the Compliance Manager,
    Ensure all operations comply with the client’s health and safety regulations and company policies
  • Ensure that training and standards for all factory staff are maintained and that new employees are trained up to the client’s standards by an appropriate instructor
  • Sign off holiday requests whilst ensuring that there is enough cover in the light of any planned absence.
  • Ensure adequate cover is in place in the event of unplanned staff absences
  • Co-ordinate and plan any overtime and document what tasks are to be carried out to ensure the hours worked meet business requirements.
  • Ensure that the daily morning factory meetings are carried out and that by the end of day e-mail is sent to all concerned.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and annual appraisals
  • Interview for new recruits in conjunction with the HR manager

Maintenance / Breakdowns

  • Take responsibility for and co-ordinate the response to any factory equipment breakdown.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and troubleshooting processes
  • Ability to show initiative to find alternative solutions (thinking outside the box) to streamline production to maximise productivity
  • Co-ordinate the routine maintenance schedule for all factory equipment
  • Prepare Permit to Work paperwork for on-site contractors

Stock Management

  • Ensure that an empty IBC count is carried out every week and reported back to purchasing
  • Hold weekly production meetings with sales and purchasing
  • Liaise with purchasing in respect of the quantity of raw materials that need to be ordered and the timescale to ensure no delays in the production schedule.
  • Co-ordinate waste count and removal from the site in a timely manner

Production

  • Plan and organise production schedules to meet demand and targets
  • Creation of batch cards from Sage 200 for all planned production
  • Coordinate with purchasing for raw material procurement and inventory control
  • Address and resolve production-related issues or delays
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration across departments involved in production.
  • Lead root cause analysis for quality or production failures.

Working hours: 9am – 5pm
Probation: 3 month probation period
Days of work: Monday to Friday
Salary: Dependent on experience and skill sets
Holiday: 23 days holiday (3 of which need to be taken during the Christmas shutdown) plus statutory Bank Holidays
Pension: Company pension after successful completion of probation period
