Facilities Operative

Role Overview

We are seeking a reliable and motivated individual to support field teams working across various archaeology sites in the Cambridge region. This is a varied role combining practical site‑based duties with administrative and computer‑based responsibilities.
You’ll be travelling to different excavation and research locations, assisting with the setup and removal of hoardings and temporary infrastructure, and providing general on‑site support. Alongside this, you’ll help with documentation, basic reporting, and digital record‑keeping, so confidence with computers is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Site Setup & Breakdown — Assist with erecting and dismantling hoardings, barriers, and temporary structures at active archaeology sites.
  • On‑Site Support — Provide practical help to field teams, ensuring sites remain safe, organised, and compliant.
  • Administrative Tasks — Complete basic paperwork, update digital records, and support project documentation.
  • Computer‑Based Work — Use standard software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, document tools) to support project coordination.
  • Physical Duties — Carry out manual handling tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials.
  • Travel Between Sites — Work across multiple locations as required by project schedules.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong practical ability and physical fitness.
  • Confidence using computers and completing admin tasks.
  • A flexible, proactive attitude with the ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to support colleagues.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Location
Based in Cambridge, with regular travel to surrounding archaeology sites.
