About the Role
As Interim Exclusion Co-Ordinator, you will support the council’s efforts to reduce both permanent and fixed-period exclusions. Working closely with schools, parents/carers, and internal teams, you’ll provide expert advice and guidance on exclusion processes and alternatives, ensuring timely and effective support for children and families.
️ Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with schools to advise on alternatives to exclusion and promote inclusive strategies.
- Provide guidance on Department for Education and local authority policies and statutory requirements related to exclusions.
- Work across the directorate to ensure early intervention and support for children at risk of exclusion.
- Manage a caseload and complete all associated administrative tasks in line with current legislation.
- Analyse data to identify trends in suspensions and exclusions, and use insights to inform practice.
- Engage in conversations with schools to understand patterns and develop targeted support.
- Support the development and implementation of online forms and digital tools to streamline processes.
- Liaise with Legal Services and other agencies to stay abreast of legislative changes.
- Assist the Exclusions Co-Ordinator in delivering effective resources and support to prevent exclusions.
What We’re Looking For

- Experience working in pastoral roles or with vulnerable children and families.
- Data-savvy with the ability to identify trends and patterns in exclusion and suspension data.
- Familiarity with AI tools or digital solutions to enhance service delivery is desirable.
- Experience of setting up online forms and digital workflows.
- Excellent communication and partnership skills, with a child-centred approach.
✅ Additional Requirements
- Enhanced DBS clearance is required due to the nature of the role.
If you’re passionate about inclusion and ready to make a meaningful impact on Birmingham’s education landscape, we’d love to hear from you.
