Estimator - Permanent - Derby - Principal Contractor - Multi-Sector - Strong Project Pipeline - Civils

Your new company

You will be joining an industry-leading civil engineering contractor based in Derby dedicated to successfully delivering a diverse range of projects across the UK. This multi-accredited and privately-owned principal contractor operates across the energy, industrial and commercial sectors, delivering projects valued up to £20m for an array of high-profile clients, and offers excellent opportunities for career progression and professional development. Due to continued success, they are actively seeking an Estimator to join their pre-contract team.

Working hours: 8:45 to 5:15 (flexible) with a 1-hour lunch

Your new role

As Estimator, you will be based out of their Derby office and be responsible for, but not limited to:
  • Preparing and submitting tenders from first principles, including obtaining quotations for subcontract work, materials and plant, and compiling programmes
  • Liaising with clients to ensure a full understanding of their requirements is obtained
  • Assisting in checking details of order and preparing documentation for, and attending, handover meetings with the contracts department if tenders are successful
  • Assisting junior staff when required to ensure competence in the duties required of them
  • Representing the company at all times and promoting good relations with clients (and their representatives), subcontractors and the general public
  • Conducting site visits to determine factors that could influence the cost of undertaking works.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to be successful, you must have:
  • Experience in estimating within groundworks, reinforced concrete structures and/or general civil engineering works
  • Ability to estimate from first principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Sound numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Full UK driving licence.
