Energy and Carbon Projects Lead

Overall Purpose:
Lead building-related energy and carbon projects, including managing, planning, and budgeting for all planned preventative maintenance energy projects. Provide professional and technical advice on carbon and energy management, ensuring all activities comply with legal, statutory, and policy requirements.

Main Accountabilities:
  1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and standards related to energy and carbon-reducing techniques and technologies.
  2. Champion energy and carbon initiatives, such as Whole Life Cycle Carbon Assessment.
  3. Serve as the focal point for building-related energy enquiries, providing high-quality advice and guidance.
  4. Support the development of long-term asset plans for the operational estate.
  5. Assist in implementing the property-related aspects of the Energy Strategy Action Plan.
  6. Contribute to achieving energy conservation policies and safeguarding the organisation's reputation.
  7. Develop and maintain control systems for compliance with legislation and contract regulations.
  8. Identify new business opportunities.
  9. Manage financial aspects of energy/carbon projects, including budgets, cost control, and procurement.
  10. Ensure all energy/carbon-related costs are properly accounted for.
  11. Review and comment on business cases related to energy/carbon matters.
  12. Identify and realise efficiency savings and opportunities from effective energy management.
  13. Lead and support the management of allocated energy projects, including staff, consultants, contractors, and service providers.
  14. Prepare reports and monitor project progress to ensure outcomes are delivered within agreed timescales, budgets, and quality standards.
  15. Support the Energy Management Team in providing consistent quality services and expertise.
  16. Ensure personal and professional development to remain an expert in energy consumption and carbon management.
  17. Oversee the procurement and financial control of energy projects.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:
  • Minimum HNC/HND in Environmental, Engineering, Building Services, or Building Construction (Essential)
  • Membership of a professional body (Essential)
  • Degree in a related field (Desirable)

Knowledge & Experience:
  • Experience in a similar or related role (Essential)
  • Extensive technical knowledge of building services systems and energy/carbon management (Essential)
  • Thorough understanding of relevant legislation and Building Regulations (Essential)
  • Experience in project management and developing customer relationships (Essential)
  • Experience in quality assurance for energy efficiency installations (Desirable)
  • Experience in asset management planning and property information systems (Desirable)

Skills:
The ability to inform, persuade, negotiate, and communicate ideas effectively to diverse groups and individuals across all levels of the organisation.
