English Teacher Part Time

Job Type: Permanent
Location: Near Rye
Working Pattern: Part-Time
Specialism: English & Literacy

Are you a passionate English teacher who thrives on supporting learners and enjoys seeing confidence grow? A specialist independent school near Rye is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled teacher to join its close-knit team on a part-time basis. If you value small classes, personalised teaching, and making a tangible difference every day, this could be a genuinely rewarding opportunity.

Your new company

This school is a specialist independent school, near Rye, working with students with dyslexia. The school offers education from Key Stage 3 through to Sixth Form. With small class sizes and a strong emphasis on evidence‑based, multisensory teaching, the school offers an environment where both students and staff are well-supported to succeed.

The ethos is warm, inclusive and highly collaborative. Staff work closely across departments, leadership is visible and approachable, and professional development is encouraged, particularly in specialist literacy and dyslexia practice. The school values flexibility, empathy and creativity, and places great importance on building students’ confidence as learners.
As an English and Literacy Teacher, you’ll be trusted to take initiative, contribute to whole‑school literacy development, and play an active role in the wider life of the school, including pastoral support and extracurricular involvement. It’s a setting where specialist teachers are valued, ideas are welcomed, and your expertise will genuinely matter.

Your new role

We are seeking a passionate and skilled English and Literacy Teacher to join a committed academic team on a part-time basis. You will deliver high‑quality, differentiated English and literacy provision to students with dyslexia, supporting reading, spelling and writing development through specialist and multisensory approaches.

The role spans Year 7 to Sixth Form. In addition to classroom teaching, you will contribute to small‑group and one‑to‑one literacy support, play an active role in curriculum development, and take on pastoral responsibilities, including serving as a Form Tutor.
As this is a boarding school environment, you will also contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities and occasional weekend duties in line with published rotas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated English and literacy lessons for students with dyslexia
  • Using multisensory, phonics‑based and evidence‑informed teaching strategies
  • Delivering targeted literacy interventions (small group and one‑to‑one)
  • Monitoring and assessing student progress, maintaining detailed records and IEPs
  • Contributing to departmental planning, curriculum development and whole‑school literacy strategy
  • Working collaboratively with learning support staff, boarding staff and parents
  • Fulfilling pastoral duties, including Form Tutor responsibilities

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and an honours degree in English (or significant experience teaching English/Literacy)
  • Proven experience teaching students with dyslexia and SpLD, in either a mainstream or specialist setting
  • Strong knowledge of literacy development, including phonics, word and sentence‑level work
  • Experience delivering differentiated and age‑appropriate English language and literature curricula
  • Familiarity with evidence‑based dyslexia teaching strategies and literacy interventions
  • Excellent communication, organisation and record‑keeping skills
  • A flexible, empathetic and student‑centred approach
  • Willingness to fully engage in the wider life of a boarding school

What you'll get in return

  • The opportunity to make a genuine impact on students’ confidence and outcomes
  • Small class sizes and a highly supportive specialist environment
  • Ongoing professional development and training in dyslexia and literacy support
  • A collaborative, values‑driven school culture
  • Flexible working options available
  • Competitive salary in line with experience and qualifications
