On-Site 3–4 Days a Week Across Birmingham Libraries

Hays is proud to be partnering with a local council to recruit an Engagement & Development Officer who will play a vital role in strengthening community connections across Birmingham. This is a unique opportunity to help shape inclusive, community-led services by embedding support into local library spaces and fostering collaboration across sectors.

About the Role

Working initially across Stirchley and Northfield Libraries, you will be instrumental in developing external relationships that promote diversity, innovation, and long-term wellbeing. You’ll help translate strategic visions into practical initiatives that empower residents and support early intervention and prevention.
This is a field-based role, requiring travel across various library sites in Birmingham.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with residents, voluntary groups, and third-sector organisations to co-design and deliver inclusive services.
  • Facilitate joined up working across statutory services, community organisations, and local networks.
  • Champion the Early Intervention and Prevention (EI&P) offer by embedding it into community spaces.
  • Lead targeted engagement and outreach activities to raise awareness and encourage participation in Connected Communities services.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can navigate complex political environments and build sustainable relationships with Councillors, Directors, and Officers.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to demonstrate sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Communicates effectively with a wide range of stakeholders using various methods.
  • Possesses strong negotiation and influencing skills to foster collaboration across diverse interests.
