Fantastic In-house Employment Paralegal Role – Exeter

Your New Company
This well-regarded UK institution is known for its strong academic reputation, world-class research and teaching. They are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Employment Paralegal to join their in-house legal team, supporting the Employment Legal Counsel and wider HR function. This is a part-time role (29.2 hours per week).

Your New Role
This is a varied and rewarding position offering exposure to a broad range of employment law matters within a dynamic academic environment. You will act as the first point of contact for HR casework referrals, providing clear and practical legal advice, drafting legal documentation, and supporting Employment Tribunal proceedings. You will also contribute to policy development, legal training, and internal updates.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Advising HR colleagues on day-to-day employment law queries and casework.
  • Drafting legal documents including ET3 forms, grounds of resistance, and Tribunal correspondence.
  • Supporting litigation preparation including disclosure, bundles, and witness statements.
  • Conducting legal research and preparing briefings.
  • Assisting with policy drafting and legal updates for HR.
  • Delivering training and presentations on employment law topics.
  • Providing cover for the Legal Counsel – Employment when required.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
You will be a qualified paralegal with a strong academic background in law and a minimum of 12 months’ paralegal experience. Experience of employment law and HR procedures is essential, along with excellent drafting, communication, and organisational skills.

Essential Criteria:
  • Law degree, law conversion course, or CILEX Paralegal qualification.
  • Employment law module/elective.
  • Minimum 12 months’ paralegal experience.
  • Strong legal drafting and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.

Desirable Criteria:
  • LPC, CILEX Advanced Paralegal or Advanced Diploma.
  • Experience in Higher Education or research environments.
