Contract job opportunity for an Employee Relations Manager
Contract duration – 6 months (possibility to extend further)
Location – UB7 0GB (Hybrid working – 2–3 days per week from office)Your new company
As Employee Relations Manager, you will be accountable for shaping and implementing employee and industrial relations strategy, delivering business change and fostering positive and productive working relationships between the client and its people. Working closely with trade unions and employee representatives, the role holder will support seamless execution of our business strategy, lead consultations and support people initiatives to ensure that our teams are engaged and motivated to deliver for our customers. This is a 24/7 global business requiring robust employee relations leadership in a highly unionised, operationally complex environment.
Your new role
- Employee Relations Strategy
- Conduct gap analysis of current ER practices and frameworks
- Design and implement a refreshed Employee Relations strategy aligned with business goals
- Lead future risk planning and mitigation efforts across unionised workforces
- Mobilise ER strategy across multiple brands and operational units
- Industrial Relations & Union Engagement
- Manage relationships with major trade unions including TUC, RMT, and Unite
- Negotiate pay deals and terms & conditions of employment
- Represent business in collective bargaining and dispute resolution
- Maintain strong working relationships with union representatives across aviation, rail, manufacturing, and public sector contexts
What you'll need to succeed
- Ensure compliance with employment law and operating standards
- Support large, unionised working groups with consistent ER practices
- Provide guidance on ERM (Employee Relations Management) systems and processes
- Collaborate with HR and operational leaders to embed ER best practices
- Proven experience in a unionised environment, either from a trade union or employer-side perspective
- Strong understanding of employment law and industrial relations frameworks
- Demonstrated success in building trust-based relationships with stakeholders
- Experience in aviation, transport, manufacturing, or public sector ER contexts preferred
