Electrician – Public Sector

Location: Belfast
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent Opportunity
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: Competitive (aligned with public sector pay scales)

About the Role

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Electrician to join our Estates team within a leading public sector university in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic campus environment, supporting the maintenance and development of a wide range of academic, residential, and commercial buildings.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of electrical systems across the university estate.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive electrical repairs
Install, maintain, and test electrical systems and equipment
Diagnose faults and ensure timely and effective resolution
Ensure all work complies with current regulations and health & safety standards
Support minor installation and project work across campus
Participate in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours emergency support when required
Maintain accurate records of work completed using job management systems


Essential Criteria

NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
Proven experience working as an electrician in a commercial or public sector environment
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Full UK driving licence (or suitable alternative transport arrangements)


Desirable Criteria

Experience working within a university, healthcare, or large public sector estate
Testing & inspection qualifications (e.g., 2391 or equivalent)
Knowledge of building management systems (BMS)
