Electrical Project Engineer, Gatwick Airport, infrastructure project

This role supports the delivery of a major infrastructure programme at Gatwick Airport, specifically focused on the construction of a new pier. The 60-week project involves complex electrical systems integration in a live airport environment, requiring an experienced engineer with a strong background in large-scale infrastructure and aviation work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead electrical engineering activities throughout the construction of the new pier.
  • Manage installation and commissioning of LV/HV systems, lighting, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with UK electrical regulations, airport standards, and health & safety legislation.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, drawings, and specifications.
  • Monitor progress, manage risks, and report on project milestones.
  • Liaise with the main contractor to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
  • Support procurement and oversee subcontractor performance.

Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in Large infrastructure projects, ideally within aviation or transport sectors.
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of BS7671 and UK electrical standards.
  • Experience working in live operational environments.
  • ECS/CSCS card and relevant site safety certifications.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Skills:
  • Familiarity with BIM and digital engineering tools.
  • Experience with airport-specific systems (e.g., airfield lighting, baggage handling).
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
