EC&I Engineering Design Manager

About the Role
A leading multidisciplinary engineering services provider is seeking an experienced EC&I Engineering Design Manager to oversee the delivery of electrical, control, and instrumentation design projects across a range of industrial sectors. This is a strategic leadership role, combining technical oversight with team management and client engagement. The successful candidate will play a key part in shaping project outcomes and driving engineering excellence across complex, high-value assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage EC&I design activities across multiple projects, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of EC&I engineers and designers
  • Oversee the preparation of design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and schedules
  • Ensure designs meet relevant standards and regulations (e.g. BS7671, IEC, ATEX)
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and other engineering disciplines to define scope and resolve technical challenges
  • Support tendering and proposal development with accurate technical input and resource planning
  • Conduct design reviews and ensure continuous improvement in design processes and outputs
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, acting as a key technical point of contact
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control & Instrumentation, or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in EC&I design within industrial or process environments
  • Proven leadership experience in managing engineering teams and delivering design projects
  • Strong understanding of applicable standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites as required
