A forward-thinking local authority committed to delivering high-quality legal services to its residents are looking for someone with extensive public sector experience to join their legal team. Their Legal Services team plays a vital role in supporting council operations, particularly in housing, litigation, and public law.

Your new role
This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Disrepair Lawyer to take ownership of a varied caseload, with a focus on housing disrepair, litigation, and advocacy. You’ll be advising senior officers and members, drafting legal documents, and representing the council in court. The role offers a great balance of autonomy and support, with scope to develop your expertise in public sector law.

What you'll need to succeed
  • A UK law degree or equivalent legal qualification

  • Full qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives

  • A current practising certificate

  • Strong experience in housing disrepair and litigation

  • Excellent legal drafting, case management, and advocacy skills

  • Confidence in advising senior stakeholders and working independently

  • Familiarity with local government law and procedures

  • Strong communication and time management skills

  • Willingness to travel locally and occasionally outside the Southend area
