We’re working with a leading construction specialist in the facade sector who is looking to bring on a Design Apprentice to join their growing design team in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to start their career in construction design, with full support, mentoring, and hands-on experience from day one.
About the Role
As a Design Apprentice, you’ll support the design team with a mix of administrative and basic design tasks while learning the principles of facade design and construction. You’ll be involved in real projects, working alongside experienced designers and technical teams, gaining valuable insight into the full design lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing design drawings and specifications
- Help organise material samples and supplier information
- Support the team in evaluating subcontractor bids and technical data
- Learn to identify design risks and maintain project records
- Engage with estimating, planning, and operations teams to understand project requirements
- Participate in mentoring and CPD activities (minimum 12 hours annually)
- Promote health & safety, quality, and environmental standards across all tasks
- Attend meetings with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to observe and learn
What We’re Looking For
- GCSEs (or equivalent) with grades A–C / 9–7 in Maths and English
- Basic computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office
- Willingness to learn and grow within a professional design environment
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- A proactive mindset with a focus on quality and continuous improvement
Desirable (but not essential)
- HNC or similar qualification in a construction-related field
