Deputy Head of IT | Carmarthen | £50,000

About the Role
This full-time position in the IT department reports to the Head of IT and serves as the Deputy Head of IT. As the manager of the IT Business Systems Team, you will oversee systems and infrastructure across the Service area, providing expert advice, knowledge, and innovative IT solutions to users.
The IT department is undergoing rapid transformation with several exciting projects on the horizon. These initiatives promise significant positive changes within the organisation, placing IT at the core. This role is ideal for someone passionate about IT, enthusiastic about change, and possessing a strong work ethic.


What You’ll Need
  • Cybersecurity Expertise: Extensive knowledge in cybersecurity, including securing systems from inception and performing remedial security work.
  • General ICT Skills: Broad IT skills with proven technical knowledge in networking, servers (physical, virtual, cloud, and on-prem), software, and hardware. Experience of delivering innovative ideas that have driven significant change in previous roles.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities with a focus on people, capable of prioritising the team and organisation above personal interests. This role is hands-on and suits someone who enjoys the technical aspects of IT.
  • Project Management: Proficient in various project management methodologies, with the ability to create work plans with appropriate timescales and budgets.

Experience Required
  • Successfully delivered one or more large IT projects.
  • Created functional user specifications and used them to define project scope.
  • Ensured effective change management during projects.
  • Utilised personal ICT ideas to drive organisational change.
  • Effectively delegated tasks and assigned responsibilities.
  • Evaluated value for money effectively, considering both capital outlay and lifetime ROI.
  • Hands-on experience with configuring Microsoft systems, including Microsoft 365 Administration, Virtual Machine configuration, SANs, Firewalls, and network infrastructure.
  • Configured systems and networks to defend against cyber-attacks and ensure cyber resilience.
