Your new role
As a Database Administrator, you'll take complete management responsibility for database management systems. You'll proactively manage the database environment to ensure maximum availability and efficient operation of business-critical systems relied upon by control centres and operations teams.
Your responsibilities will include formulating strategic plans for database management, ensuring high availability and optimal performance, planning preventative maintenance across the entire database landscape, and acting as the lead technical specialist for all databases. You'll design and implement database solutions, manage complex system upgrades, develop business cases for service improvements, and provide expert consultancy to internal and external stakeholders. You'll also lead on security administration, maintain technical documentation, and drive continuous enhancement of our database systems.
What you'll need to succeed
You'll need significant experience in a similar Database Administrator role, with demonstrable evidence of expertise in:
- Installation, configuration, upgrade and migration of databases
- Backup and recovery procedures
- Database security and Active Directory integration
- Performance monitoring and tuning
- High Availability solutions
- SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) Administration
- Database consultancy and advisory support
You should have proven knowledge of SQL Server, Microsoft client/server products and SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer, with strong understanding of server operating systems.
Beyond technical skills, you'll need excellent communication abilities to translate complex information into business language for non-technical stakeholders. You'll be skilled at building relationships across the Trust and with external partners, managing escalations efficiently and demonstrating flexibility when unforeseen circumstances arise. The ability to analyse, and clearly articulate risk is essential.
