Credit Controller, North Wolverhampton, £32,000, 35 hours to be worked over 4 or 5 days

Your new company

Hays are partnering with a well-established and highly regarded business based in North Wolverhampton (accessible from Penkridge, Cannock, M54 Junction 2 area, who are now looking to appoint an experienced Credit Controller to join their close-knit finance team and take full ownership of the credit control function.

This is an excellent opportunity to step into a standalone role where your expertise will truly make an impact, working closely with senior leadership, including the Managing Director.

Your new role

As the dedicated Credit Controller, you will take full responsibility for managing the end-to-end credit control process. This is a varied, hands-on position where you will play a key role in maintaining cash flow and strengthening customer relationships.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Full ownership of the sales ledger and credit control function
  • Proactively chasing outstanding debt via phone, email, and written communication
  • Building strong relationships with customers to ensure timely payments
  • Allocating cash and reconciling customer accounts
  • Setting up new customer accounts and conducting credit checks
  • Reviewing and setting credit limits, monitoring risk, and reducing exposure
  • Resolving invoice queries quickly and efficiently in collaboration with internal teams
  • Producing aged debt reports and providing regular updates to the MD
  • Implementing and improving credit control procedures and policies
  • Supporting month-end processes and ensuring accurate financial records
  • Assisting the wider finance team with ad hoc duties where required
This role offers real autonomy, making it ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership and driving improvements.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience in credit control where you have managed the function end-to-end credit
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Confident working independently and managing your own workload
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Good IT skills, particularly Excel; experience with Sage is advantageous but not essential
  • A proactive, adaptable approach and willingness to support the wider finance team
