💰 Rate: £24.00 per hour (Umbrella)

Location: Birmingham
Contract: Initial 6-month interim assignment
Hays is proud to be working in partnership with a Local Council to recruit an experienced Coroner’s Investigator on an interim basis. This is a critical role requiring a strong investigative background and the ability to work sensitively and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively assess and investigate reports of sudden, suspicious, unnatural, or violent deaths, including attending scenes.
  • Obtain statements and information from witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the circumstances surrounding a death.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and legislation related to Coronial matters.
  • Secure and preserve the evidence through thorough investigation, preparing inquest files and presenting findings to the Coroner.
  • Maintain integrity and continuity of evidence and exhibits.
  • Act as a single point of contact for Senior Investigating Officers, offering guidance on Coronial processes at crime scenes.
  • Complete enquiries efficiently and professionally, ensuring timely submission of documentation and reports.

✅ Ideal Candidate:

  • Background in investigative work (e.g., police, legal, forensic, or similar)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
  • Knowledge of Coronial procedures and relevant legislation is highly desirable.
