Consultant/Senior Ecologist - Permanent Job - Derby - £30k - £45k DOE

Your new company

Established in 1999, my client is a customer-focused planning, environment, and design consultancy with extensive experience in adding value to a range of development schemes. They work with various building material, minerals & waste, commercial and residential clients amongst others.
It's an exciting time currently, they are looking for a Consultant/Senior Ecologist to join their close-knit and growing Ecology team.
Their other departments offer various planning and environmental services that work closely together to give a comprehensive service to their clients.

Your new role

  • Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (habitat surveys and condition assessments).
  • Biodiversity Impact Assessments.
  • Protected and priority species surveys.
  • Preparing quotations and tenders.
  • Ecological Impact Assessments and further detailed assessments.
  • Project management and organisation.
  • Carrying out desk studies, consultations, research, data management and analysis, and report writing.
  • Liaising with clients and statutory bodies.

What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Good consultancy experience (not just ECoW but writing reports and project management)
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing and client liaison
  • Thorough knowledge of wildlife legislation and the planning system leading to confidence in providing technical advice to clients.
  • Full range of survey skills including habitat surveys and protected species surveys
  • Experience using the BNG metrics
  • Be a member of CIEEM
  • Attention to detail and the ability to deliver contracts on time and to budget
  • A client-focused approach where the commercial element of each project can be understood and appreciated
  • The ability to work in a team or for longer periods of time alone
  • Flexible approach to working hours to accommodate seasonality and survey time constraints.
  • Full driving license
  • QGIS skills

Desirable skills and experience
  • A bat licence (Class 1 or 2)
  • Ornithology expertise
  • A full membership with CIEEM
  • Experience of writing ES chapters and or HRA’s
  • Experience of writing EPSL applications, preferably held in your name
