The services of Hays have been retained by our client, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) to recruit a Health & Safety Advisor based from their Belfast City Centre office within the Health and Safety Services department.

Your new role

This is a contract position for an initial 6-month period with the potential of offering the opportunity to apply for the permanent post.
As a Health & Safety Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in promoting a culture of safety and compliance across NIHE operations. You’ll support the implementation of health and safety policies, conduct inspections and audits, and provide expert guidance to staff and management.

Responsibilities:
  • To fulfil the requirements of a Competent Person as required by the Management of Health & Safety Regulations (NI) 2000
  • To assist in the development, implementation and operation of policies, procedures, information and guidance in relation to the Construction Health and Safety function.
  • To undertake Health, Safety and Welfare Inspections of construction sites and produce reports to ensure organisational compliance with statutory requirements.
  • To ensure that incident reports, incident investigations and witness statements are compiled and collated.
  • To assist in the preparation of evidence, witness statements and reports.

What you'll need to succeed

Applicants must provide evidence that they meet the following essential criteria:
1. Either
a. Possess a degree or equivalent level qualification (Level 6) or higher qualification in Occupational Health and Safety and can demonstrate 2 years’ relevant experience in a Construction Health & Safety Advisor/Officer role.
or
b. Can demonstrate that they are currently progressing through a Level 6 course in Occupational Health and Safety and can demonstrate 3 years’ relevant experience in a Construction Health & Safety Advisor/Officer role.

2. Hold membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) at either Technical or Certified level.
3. Must possess a CSR Card. Successful applicants will be expected to gain the Gold Health & Safety Practitioner CSR Card on renewal.
4. Can demonstrate significant relevant experience in each of the following areas:
a. Undertaking Health, Safety & Welfare construction site inspections.
b. Developing inspection reports and provide feedback on required remedial actions
c. Collating Pre-Construction Information, Reviewing Construction Phase Plans, Site Waste Management Plans, Risk Assessments (RA) and Method Statements (MS)/Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
d. Developing and delivering health & safety training.
e. Developing and implementing health & safety policies and procedures.

What you'll get in return

Salary range £36,124 – £41,511 per annum
37 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
35 days annual leave (pro rata)
Paid business mileage – 45p per mile
Paid Weekly by BACS
Potential for permanent employment
