Bereavement, Registration and Mortuary Services operate in a highly regulated environment, requiring strong governance, compliance and professional standards.

Your new role

As a Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that Bereavement, Registration and Mortuary Services operate safely, legally and in line with statutory, regulatory and council requirements.
You will monitor compliance, review and improve policies and procedures, carry out audits and inspections, investigate incidents, and support service managers with risk management and quality assurance. You will also provide guidance and training to staff and report on compliance performance to senior leadership. This plays a key part in protecting service users, staff and the council.


What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Experience in a compliance, governance, quality or regulatory role
  • Experience working in a regulated or risk‑sensitive environment (public sector, healthcare, housing, care, utilities or similar)
  • Knowledge of compliance monitoring, audits, inspections and risk management
  • The ability to interpret legislation and apply it practically
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to work to deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Confidence working with a range of stakeholders and service managers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours when required
