Your new role

Southend City Council are looking to appoint full-time, permanent carers experienced Positive Activities Worker.
The Positive Activities Worker will work to identify and support carers across Southend. Working closely with Carers First and Children’s Services, the post holder will be able to deliver 1:1 and group sessions in the carer’s home and the community, with a focus on improving the lives and experience of carers.
The post will predominantly include lone working within the community, carrying out direct work with children and adults, using holistic and inclusive assessments. You will work with multi-agency teams, attending meetings with the purpose of ensuring carer’s needs are fully identified and supported. The successful candidate will engage with carers in their own environment with programmes designed to develop their awareness of personal safety and to help them to take ownership and develop future activities to become further engaged in their communities.
The post holder will keep accurate records on Southend Council case recording systems and act as a contact point for Carers First to ensure a seamless service for carers in Southend.
Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available. However, you are required to be on-site at the Civic Centre a minimum of 2 days a week and for on-site meetings as and when required. More office attendance will be expected when training.

What you'll need to succeed

To be shortlisted for this position, you will have experience of working with carers and have knowledge of appropriate assessments to identify the needs and create plans with families which improve their lives. Ideally, you will have experience of lone working in the community, using restorative practice to work with families and empower them to make and sustain positive change.
The role includes multi-agency working, so you will be required to evidence how you are able to work with a range of professionals, promoting helpful relationships and representing the needs of the adults and children who are impacted by caring roles.
You will have experience of using case recording systems, recording relevant information in a timely way and have the capacity (with training) to produce reports on the impact of interventions.
Whilst a driving licence would be beneficial, it is not essential you do need to be able to move around the City with ease.

What you'll get in return

When joining the council, you can enjoy a range of benefits including: 25 days annual leave, flexible working and excellent training and development opportunities. They are committed to ensuring that you are supported in this varied and challenging role with the appropriate level of training.
