Community Project Worker

We are working on behalf of a charity who are looking for a Community Project Worker to come and work with them on a temporary basis. The organisation works with children and families, particularly within the Early Years sector. The role would start as soon as possible and would run through till March 2026.

The role would involve the following:

  • Building capacity within local communities to ensure that children, young people and families have access to the right support at the right time before issues and concerns escalate
  • Supporting residents to lead on community projects, including the development and delivery of new community groups, services or activities to meet needs or improve services within the community
  • Working collaboratively with the Family Hubs within the localities to ensure that EH workstreams and outcomes are aligned to Family Hub outcomes
  • Develop contacts, links and relationships between locality teams and community assets
  • Increase children and families engagement with local assets by working with groups and organisations to improve accessibility, identify gaps in provision, and encourage innovation and improvement to services
  • Organise community events with stakeholders and Plan and deliver creative and engaging consultation events and activities, to understand and gather information from a diverse range of people on local needs and issues.
  • Representing the Early Help/Family Hubs offer at meetings across Birmingham Children’s Partnership organisations, the localities, the city etc.
  • Writing and/or contributing to monthly and quarterly summary reports of key activities, trends and work undertaken in the localities

The organisation is looking for someone who has:

  • Relevant Professional Qualification in relation to working with children, young people and families, e.g. Social Care, Youth or Community Work, Teaching, Psychology
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of issues and challenges affecting families, including children at risk of coming in to care, non-school attendance, worklessness, offending, emotional well-being and mental health, domestic abuse, impact of trauma
  • Have experience of working in an engagement role with diverse community settings with statutory and third sector organisations
  • Recent experience of working with organisations that support vulnerable children, young people, families or groups
  • Understand information sharing, consent and confidentiality issues and risks
  • Have experience of engaging with young people, families and organisation professionals through online communications and social media
