Communications Officer | Temporary Appointment | Remote Working | £21.87

Your new company

You’ll be joining a large, complex public‑sector organisation delivering essential services across a diverse geographic area. With a strong focus on transparency, accessibility and customer experience, the organisation places high value on clear, effective communications that support both service delivery and public trust.

Your new role

As Communications Officer, you will play a key role in planning and delivering internal and external communications that protect and promote the organisation’s brand and reputation. Working closely with the Communications Manager, you will support corporate campaigns, media relations and crisis communications, while ensuring all messaging is accessible, engaging and aligned with organisational priorities.

You will write and edit content across multiple channels including websites, intranets, publications and digital platforms, build strong relationships with media contacts, advise senior leaders and elected members on communications opportunities, and support media interviews when required.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you’ll have significant experience working within a communications or PR environment, ideally handling media relations and delivering high‑quality communications across a wide range of channels. You’ll be confident advising senior stakeholders, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to produce clear, customer‑focused content using plain English principles.

A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience) is essential, with a marketing or communications qualification desirable. Experience in the public sector, including local government, and exposure to crisis or issues management would be an advantage. You’ll be organised, resilient, able to work independently and comfortable managing competing deadlines, including occasional out‑of‑hours working.

What you'll get in return

You’ll gain exposure to senior stakeholders, develop your media and strategic communications experience, and enjoy a role with purpose, variety and long‑term stability. Flexible working and strong organisational benefits are also offered.
