We are supporting a major local authority undergoing significant transformation within its Finance Directorate and seeking an experienced Communications Officer to join their team. This is a high‑impact role shaping strategic communications that underpin governance improvements, cultural change and new ways of working. As the Communications Officer, you will play a central role in developing and delivering high‑quality communications across internal, customer and supplier audiences. You’ll work closely with programme leaders, project teams, change specialists and subject‑matter experts to ensure messaging is clear, accessible and aligned to programme priorities. This is an exciting opportunity to influence how a major transformation programme is understood and adopted across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and maintain the communications plans.
  • Create and edit newsletters, bulletins, staff updates, intranet content and digital materials.
  • Coordinate messaging across Teams, SharePoint and internal platforms to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Develop visual content such as infographics, workflows and diagrams.
  • Translate complex financial or operational information into clear, accessible messages.
  • Support customer‑facing and supplier communications, simplifying letters, terms and process guidance.
  • Contribute to directorate‑wide events, engagement activities and targeted communication campaigns.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information.
  • Experience creating engaging content across digital, written and visual formats.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work at pace within a dynamic programme environment.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools such as Teams, SharePoint and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team.
  • Experience in communications within local government or complex organisations.
