Are you a creative and strategic communicator with a knack for translating complex information into clear, engaging content? We’re looking for a Communication Officer to support a Finance directorate within a local council and lead the charge in transforming how we communicate with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

️ Internal Communications

  • Refresh and deliver the Finance directorate’s communication plan.
  • Create and distribute engaging newsletters, bulletins, and updates.
  • Manage and enhance intranet content and digital platforms (Teams, SharePoint).
  • Ensure consistent, clear messaging aligned with finance objectives and brand.
✍️ Content Creation

  • Write high-quality, plain-English content for internal audiences.
  • Translate complex financial topics into accessible, actionable messages.
  • Develop templates and style guides to ensure consistent tone and branding.
  • Design visual content (infographics, workflows) to support key messages.

Communication Focus Areas

Customer Communications

  • Reframe letters and documents to be benefit-led and user-friendly.
  • Simplify terms and conditions into plain English.
  • Position Finance as a helpful, accessible service.
Supplier Communications

  • Lead campaigns to reinforce the “No PO, No Pay” policy.
  • Create clear, concise guidance on procurement processes.
  • Develop behavioural nudges to improve supplier compliance.
Colleague Communications

  • Drive cultural and behavioural change through internal messaging.
  • Promote adoption of new systems and financial processes.
  • Reinforce budget management and compliance behaviours.

✅What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in internal communications or content strategy.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a focus on clarity and tone.
  • Ability to simplify complex information and drive behavioural change.
  • Experience with digital communication tools (e.g., SharePoint, Teams).
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and project coordination skills.
