Hays is proud to be working in partnership with a respected local authority to recruit an experienced Communications Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful community projects and make a real impact across a range of public sector initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective communications and consultation strategies.
  • Identify stakeholders and ensure timely, clear information flow across projects.
  • Write and edit engaging communications materials tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Support the promotion and coordination of community events and roadshows.
  • Liaise with local, regional, and national media in line with the Council’s media protocol.
  • Advise on and monitor the Council’s visual identity and brand, ensuring consistency.
  • Guide staff and managers on communication best practices and branding guidelines.
  • Ensure stakeholders are informed and involved using appropriate communication channels.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in a communications role, ideally within the public sector.
  • Strong writing and editing skills across multiple formats and audiences.
  • Confident working with the media and managing public-facing communications.
  • Knowledge of community engagement, local grants, funding, and public safety initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders effectively.
