You will be joining a well-established engineering and estates team based at a large, busy hospital site in Derby. The team plays a vital role in maintaining critical facilities across the estate, ensuring a safe, compliant, and fully operational environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Your new role

As a Mechanical Engineer / Commercial Plumber, you will provide a comprehensive, efficient, and high-quality mechanical maintenance service, with a strong focus on plumbing systems across a single site.
Contract: Temporary
Hours: 8–5/ 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday
Pay: £24- £26 p/hr. Please note we only pay PAYE or Umbrella. We do not pay CIS.

You will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs to a wide range of mechanical services, including:
  • Domestic hot and cold water systems
  • Drainage systems and sanitary ware
  • Associated plant and mechanical equipment
You will diagnose faults, carry out timely repairs, and assist in the installation and commissioning of new systems or modifications to existing infrastructure.

In this role, you will:
  • Work from job tickets, drawings, and instructions to deliver work safely and efficiently
  • Liaise with hospital staff, contractors, and engineering colleagues
  • Support emergency response activities and participate in on-call duties where required
  • Ensure all work meets Health & Safety regulations, HTMs, and Trust policies

What you'll need to succeed

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering
  • A time-served apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
  • Proven experience working on plumbing systems in a commercial or healthcare environment
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and safety standards
Desirable (but not essential):
  • Knowledge of HTMs and healthcare compliance requirements
  • Legionella awareness/training
  • Experience within NHS or critical environments
  • Confined space or working at height training
You will also be a reliable and adaptable individual with strong problem-solving skills, good communication, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
