Cloud Infrastructure Engineer - Permanent - Cardiff / Newport - Hybrid - c£55k

Hays are working with a professional services organisation in the South Wales region to recruit a permanent Cloud Infrastructure Engineer. The role offers flexible hybrid working going in as and when required (typically once or twice a week) in Newport or Cardiff and is paying c£55k but may have some flex for the right person. The organisation also offers a competitive benefits package.

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer designs, secures, and manages cloud and on-premises infrastructure, focusing on Microsoft Azure and Windows Server. The role combines system configuration and automation expertise with advanced security operations, including Microsoft tools like M365 Purview and DLP. The engineer ensures resilient, compliant IT services aligned with organisational security goals.

Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, and maintain secure Azure and Windows Server environments.
  • Deploy and manage Microsoft security tools (M365 Purview, DLP, Defender) and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Implement automation and infrastructure-as-code for system and security tasks.
  • Monitor, investigate, and remediate security incidents and performance issues.
  • Administer Azure resources and Windows Server infrastructure, including patching and hardening.
  • Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability remediation, and participate in audits.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and incident response procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT, Security, and business teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
  • Integrate security best practices into DevOps and cloud automation pipelines.
  • Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and technology trends.

Key Experience Required
  • Proven expertise in Azure security engineering and Windows Server administration.
  • Strong background in security operations, incident response, and monitoring.
  • Skilled in Microsoft security tools (M365 Purview, DLP) and automation (PowerShell, Azure CLI).
  • Knowledge of identity and access management (Azure AD, RBAC, MFA).
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; effective under pressure and collaborative.
