A cleaner is needed at HMP Hollesley Bay Prison, Monday to Friday. Ongoing Temporary Role

As one of the leading agency suppliers to the HM Prison Service, for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit a cleaner for HMP Hollesley Bay prison, near Woodbridge. These roles are in a unique working environment with a strong sense of teamwork. Always in demand, you could benefit from long-term contracts and there is also potential, once trained, to work in other prisons both locally and nationally if desired.

Although this will start as a temporary role, you will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent position or other roles within the prison service during this time. It is likely that the duration will be extended. However, that will be based on your performance.

We are looking for applicants who can ensure the prison is, at all times, kept clean and tidy, ensuring that the office and visitor areas of the prison are always up to expectations and tidy at all times, so it is ready to be in use. Also, candidates who know how to use professional cleaning machines will be ideal, but training will be provided.

You will also be asked to do other generic cleaning roles such as:

  • Putting mugs and plates into the dishwasher
  • Emptying bins
  • Hoovering
  • Dusting
  • Making sure the prison areas are kept clean and tidy throughout the day
  • Cleaning tables
  • Toilets
  • Office areas
  • Admin areas
  • Clean health care equipment
  • Kitchen
You must also be able to proactively undertake various cleaning activities, including using chemicals and equipment such as floor polishers and vacuum cleaners etc.

It is also important to be able to understand the importance of and adhere to health and safety legislation and policies and procedures to provide a safe and appropriate service to the prison environment, as well as be able to remain calm under pressure and work in an environment which requires a methodical approach and an ability to work to deadlines.

Full training is provided by the establishment/department, which is fully paid for.

You will be working Monday to Friday. The shifts will be Monday–Thurs 8am to 5pm and Fridays from 8am -4pm. Early starts are possible if preferred and agreed with the prison.

The rates that we offer are £14.55/hr premium rate, which is paid on a weekly basis.

The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks. You will also need to be reliable and consistent, level-headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills.

Due to the in-depth background checks the prison holds, the procedure can take up to 5–7 weeks.
