Civils Construction Planner (Primavera P6) – Major Infrastructure & Environmental Upgrade Programme

The Opportunity
I am working with a Tier 1 contractor who are recruiting an experienced Civils Construction Planner to support a high‑profile environmental infrastructure scheme involving a 20km+ linear pipeline and associated civil engineering works. This multi‑year programme demands robust planning, detailed sequencing and accurate forecasting across multiple dispersed work fronts, stakeholders and delivery partners.
As the Construction Planner, you will lead the development, management and optimisation of the project schedule using Primavera P6, ensuring the programme is realistic, coordinated and fully aligned with engineering, design and site activities.
This is a majority on-site role.

Role Overview
You will work closely with the Project Manager, Design Manager, Site Teams and external consultancies to build, maintain and monitor the master programme. Your role is critical in ensuring the project remains on schedule, risks are identified early, and mitigation is integrated into the plan.
This is an ideal opportunity for a planner with civils, utilities or linear infrastructure experience who wants to play a key role in a complex, environmentally significant scheme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain and update the Primavera P6 master construction programme for all civils and pipeline activities.
  • Build detailed work breakdown structures (WBS), activity sequencing, logic links, and critical path analysis.
  • Coordinate with design, engineering and construction teams to gather progress data, constraints and forecasts.
  • Produce look‑ahead schedules, resource histograms, progress updates and variance reports.
  • Analyse schedule risks, float, clashes and bottlenecks; recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Support planning for service crossings, environmental constraints, land access, temporary works and multi‑site logistics.
  • Prepare programme dashboards and monthly reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Ensure planning practices comply with project governance, safety standards and reporting requirements.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Construction Planner, Project Planner or Civils Planner on infrastructure, utilities, pipeline or linear civil engineering projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 (must have hands‑on, recent experience).
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering construction methods, sequencing and site operations (ESSENTIAL)
  • Ability to interpret design drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Experience developing WBS, critical path analysis and progress measurement systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to support multi‑disciplinary teams.
Desirable Qualifications & Training
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
  • APM or PMI planning‑related training or accreditation.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction H&S frameworks.
  • Experience with NEC‑based programmes, change control and compensation events.
  • Familiarity with GIS, digital planning tools or CDEs
Ideal Candidate Profile
You will be analytical, structured and highly detail‑focused, with a strong grasp of both planning theory and real‑world construction methods. You can challenge assumptions, test logic, and communicate clearly with engineers, designers, site managers and subcontractors. You thrive in a fast‑moving, multi‑work‑front environment and enjoy playing a central role in coordinating a complex programme.
